Are we compatible?
This month CERES is launching our Keep CERES humming campaign.
For your convenience I’ve compiled a science-based-style compatibility test to help you to decide, if you and CERES might be suited to an ongoing monthly giving relationship.
Section One: Nature Connection
Score one point if any of the following behaviours apply or could apply to you;
Sometimes I…
- feel compelled to point out tiny wild flowers to others while hiking
- can be heard greeting plants, birds, rocks, bodies of water, planets and/or constellations by name
- find myself in a dreamy state while gardening or doing work around fruiting trees
- make impulse purchases of Claire Mosley tea towels (we have some too!)
Section Two: You in Nature
Score one point if any of the following scenarios are familiar to you;
- Wanting to spend time throughout the day with recently planted vegetable seedlings
- Running hands through tall grass, tree leaves, against bark and/or large rocks
- Squealing in delight on sighting a wedgetail eagle, pelican, sacred kingfisher or bubbles that could be a platypus
- Experiencing mixed emotions as you near ticking off all Georgia Angus’ 100 Australian Birds
Section Three: Childhood Education
Score one point if you can relate to any of the following statements;
I really like it when…
- children get dirty
- children get up in trees
- children make cubbies
- dirty children get up in trees and make cubbies
Section Four: Recycling
Score one point if any of the following scenarios apply to you;
- I have a ceramic dish, a drawer or a shed of things that “might come in handy later”
- Whenever I see different empty glass food jars I imagine what pickle or preserve I could put in them.
- I have a small mountain of soft plastics I have been keeping until the next recycling scheme begins
- I maintain a vibrant, mutually beneficial relationship with my worm farm and/or compost making device

You’ve got chemistry, but your rhythms might be out of sync. If you’re both up for it, maybe start with a gentle walk along the Creek. - 0–4 points – Better as Friends 🤝
The spark’s faint, or maybe it never quite lit and that’s okay. You’d probably have fun together at Harvest Fest, but for now you’re heading in different directions…for now.
As I said before, CERES is launching our new monthly giving campaign.
It’s the follow up to the emergency fundraiser you overwhelmingly supported in June giving CERES the time it needed to adjust to a big drop in community sector funding.
When it comes to building lasting giving relationships CERES hasn’t put itself out there before.
But we know if the rhythm of this place is to continue CERES needs to get brave and ask people who love it to commit.
When you walk around CERES you can feel the quiet hum of life – frogs in the dam, bees drifting through flowers, worms sliding through soil.
This aliveness hasn’t happened by accident. It’s the result of years and years of care from a community of people who believe when we care for the Earth, she cares for us.
