BeekeeperThe magic of social mycelium

This is our last full week of deliveries for 2018 (yes, we’re delivering on Christmas Eve Monday).  As we wind up for the year and take our usual two week break (our first 2019 delivery is on Monday January 7th) I want to share with you a little of the impact you’ve helped make this year.

In 2018 five thousand five hundred and sixty of you shopped at Fair Food and in turn we channelled $2.6 million to buy organic, biodynamic and regenerative produce and groceries from one hundred and eighteen farms, grocery makers and distributors.

These are the farms and small businesses, many of whom are start-ups, who with the help of their families and employees, have fed us this year….

Fair Food seeks to have at least a third of our workforce made up of people who have come to Australia as asylum seekers or new migrants.  This past year out of the fifty-five people you helped employ at Fair Food, nineteen of our colleagues have come to Australia as asylum seekers or recent migrants.

By buying your groceries over the last 12 months with Fair Food you have helped generate over $60,000, supporting CERES to deliver hands-on sustainability education to over 300,000 Victorian school children at CERES environment park and in their own schools.

And finally I want to give thanks to the seventy-five Food Hosts all over Melbourne who share their verandas, front porches, sheds, carports, businesses and schools each week for the rest of us to collect our groceries from.

This simple act of generosity works like strands of social mycelium; creating new connections between us, opening up the possibility for new ways to cooperate and share that will go on to spawn new and surprising fruit.

So thank you for a great year and for making all this possible

Chris

Joe's Garden Summer

Farmer Christmas at Joe’s Market Garden

If the thought of having to go to Northlands this week has got you in the foetal position  then get down the Merri Creek this Saturday morning to Farmer Christmas at Joe’s Market Garden (Edna Grove, Coburg).

Featuring talented local Merri Creek crafts people and farmers and yes Farmer Christmas herself doing family pics on her John Deere tidings of comfort and joy tractor – this will be the most unNorthlands environment you will find in the entire metropolitan area!
