Wax on, wax off. Breathe in, breathe out.

It’s apple season, down at Hazeldean Forest Farm and Marg and Jason have been picking the first of their summer reds and akanes. This made me think of the apple questions we get every year. First yes, there is wax on organic apples, but no, it hasn’t been applied like some conventional apples. Apples are naturally waxy, some more than others (think granny smiths). This naturally occurring wax (and some yeasts) acts to keep moisture escaping from the fruit and also means apples store well.
