Chestnut & pumpkin soup / Chestnuts & cool season jazz

Chris' newsletter

21st May 2017

Whenever I think chestnuts up drifts Moonlight in Vermont.  Frank Sinatra sang it on Come Fly With Me, although everybody from Ray Charles to Nana Mouskouri have done their own version.  The funny thing about Moonlight in Vermont is, apart from the fact that it contains no rhymes and all the verses are haiku’s, there is no actual mention of chestnuts in the whole song – though all these years I could swear I heard Old Blue Eyes singing about them.

Moonlight in Vermont

I guess Moonlight in Vermont just feels chestnutty and it’s this vibe we suggest you try with friends and family this autumn/winter.  Imagine pulling on a thick white polar neck on a cold winter night and sharing a few of Jenny Indian’s best Stanley chestnuts as you chat with loved ones around an ember filled brazier, sipping Glühwein to chestnutty jazz standards like Rosemary Clooney’s Autumn in New York or Chet Baker’s epic 13 minute Oh You Crazy Moon.

There are so many styles and moods of chestnut eating  – just get the fire going and invite your peeps. This coming week you’ll see Jenny and Steve’s chestnuts in our Set Boxes and the Webstore.
