Our problem has twice (in four times) been with the wrong people taking our box (or extras) before we arrived. I think these instructions should help. I hope so, because we really love the produce.
I have never seen a ‘swap box’ – should there be one at each host’s? Great idea though – when you have a glut of lemons or tomatoes, say. Odd veggies you don’t know what to do with, you can always add to the vegetable soup.
It’s a wonderful service. Thank you so much for supplying it.
Oh yeah, one of those times was me Virginia! and again, I’m really sorry, that was my stuff up, not Ceres. Hope it goes smoother for you from here on! (and hope you found the extra rhubarb, tomatoes, herbs etc. I threw in extra as my way of apology!)
Go Ceres, we Love ya!
I love the pickup and have met some lovely ‘neighbours’ doing the run. Our host often writes up a comment on the board eg “This week we will be cooking….” Love it.
Many thanks to all the wonderful hosts.
There was a great article about this program in Epicure, The Age on Tuesday July 12th, by Richard Cornish. And I’m really enjoying the boxes. Food tastes so much better than what is available at the big chain supermarkets. Jane, Coburg.
I had just picked up my second small mix box. I found the process really easy and the fruit and veg yummy. I’ll have to look out for the share box great idea.
I have to agree with Alwyn – the simplest thing to do is to scrawl the recipients name on the box. Thanks
As a new-ish customer I have to say that the experience has been great all round. Our food hosts are lovely, SMS and emails are simple and clear and the produce is great!
Thanks for providing a great community service – good to hear the business is growing!
Hi,I love the service, I love the fresh, local food and I love not having to face the supermarket!!
I have had no problems with the service and I love the fact that in this modern world it runs on trust and honesty between people in the community.
Thanks for all your hard work!
Having been using the service now for a few months.
Never any problems. The system is simple and has a wonderful community feel. Food is generally of a great quality, and undoubtly tastes wonderful. Love not knowing what mixed fruit and veg I am going to get. Have become good at using whatever I get in mixed box. Love it. Thanks Ceres
This week was my first week and was a little confused at pick-up. I was looking for a box with my name on it or my invoice number but quickly caught on to the abbreviations. I found everything beautifully fresh.
Thanks Ceres and my Food Host Anne
I love a service that means I can eat local & seasonal produce, & I appreciate the effort that goes into it. I’m 52 & have not had any problems understanding the system – I think its good that folk have to think a second or 2 about what they are doing, perhaps it increases awareness of the whole food/labour chain.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the responses. We hope these instructions make it easier for people and we have a number of ideas which should reduce the chances of goods being mistakenly taken – so please bear with us. Good point Alwyn about the link, however, we are a way off from doing custom boxes which has a whole new level of complexity for us at the moment. Thanks for the again for the feeback.

It was my first week as a host. I was very excited to see what may be in the box! Everything is delicious! I love the system; similar to ‘leave the gold coin by the farm gate’ from my childhood years! Looking forward to having recipes on the noticeboard each week for all to enjoy. Well done Ceres; and thank you very much!
In doing the Food Host routine on many occasions, I never found any problem. The marking system is very simple: FO, SM, etc. It is not hard to correlate these identifications with them beside the names on the list. On the few occasions that an item was not available this was shown in your email confirmation of the order &/or on the list and always with an apology. Don’t make the system too complicated or it will waste your time. I am a lot older than 45 y.o but do not think you need to put names etc. The names are on the list & match the boxes.
This actually answered my problem, thanks!
My husband and i have been quite lucky when Peter could finish off his homework out of the precious recommendations he acquired using your web page. It’s not at all simplistic just to be giving out tips and tricks which usually a number of people might have been selling. So we do understand we now have the website owner to give thanks to for this. All of the explanations you have made, the easy site menu, the friendships you will help to foster – it’s got everything wonderful, and it’s really helping our son and the family understand that subject matter is pleasurable, which is seriously indispensable. Thanks for the whole lot!
