Food Inc. (2009)
Beautiful produced American film about industrial agriculture and how big business is affecting what we eat. Covering everything from illegal workers to Monsanto and famous renegade farmer Joel Salatin.
Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil (2006)
Inspiring doco about how Cuba transformed their food system and fed the population when their oil supplies were drastically cut in the 1990s following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Dirt! The Movie (2009)
The history of humans and dirt. How dirt became dirty and how it might save us.
Fresh (2009)
A call to arms, featuring individuals who are providing an alternative to industrial agriculture in their local communities.
The Real Dirt on Farmer John (2005)
A personal documentary covering the trials and tribulations of a family farm over 20 years; the failure of single crop farming, and the idealistic hippie commune, to its current incarnation as Angelic Organics.
The Gleaners and I (2000)
A beautiful film/documentary about urban and rural gleaners, people who collect what would otherwise go to waste. A must see.
King Corn (2007)
A documentary about two friends who plant and grow a crop of corn and then attempt to follow it through the food system.
Fast Food Nation (2006)
An investigation into contaminated meat leads an employee of a fast food chain to the real social costs of a fast food burger.
Super Size Me (2004)
Morgan Spurlock’s hilarious yet deeply disturbing fast food experiment where he eats McDonalds for a whole month, and documents the rapid deterioration of his physical and mental health.
The Meatrix 1 & 2 & 2 ½
A short animation about industrial agriculture and factory farming, featuring Leo the pig and Moopheus the bull.

Store Wars (2005)
Another short animation, deeply silly yet informative tale about a band of vegetables taking on the evil Darth Trader. Available online at www.storewars.org
The World According to Monsanto (2008)
Monsanto, possibly one of the most evil companies in the world. A documentary about GM seeds and Monsanto’s growing monopoly and its devastating effects on people, nations and the environment.
We Feed the World (2009)
Finally, a film about food security and food politics that is not from the US. We Feed the World gives us a look at the European food industry and we realise that just like in the US, the only real winners are the multinationals.
Our Daily Bread (2005)
An award winning German film showing exactly how vegetables and meat end up on our plates. Disturbing subject matter, but a beautifully shot, very ‘European’ film.

A David and goliath tale of apple growers in the ‘apple capital of the world’
Dirtgirl world
